Mayor Mufi’s 12 Maxims on
Leadership Mayor Mufi Hannemann describes the leadership ideals and principles he and the members of his team practice in the management of the City and County of Honolulu, the 13th largest municipality in the United States. Hannemann developed and refined these principles during an illustrious career in business, government, and politics, a career that has taken him from the halls of alma mater Harvard University to the State Capitol during the terms of two former Hawaii governors, to executive posts with one of Hawaii’s largest agri-businesses, to the White House under former Vice President George Bush, and in the service of four United States Presidents. The maxims reflect not only Hannemann’s 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors and his prominent role in bridging disparate constituencies on controversial issues, but his working-class roots in Hawaii.
